Steven Holl


Bremerton (USA), 1947
After graduating from the University of Washington, Holl opened a studio in New York in 1976, working on experimental projects. He then designed many buildings, all characterized by a careful use of natural light, great spatial complexity, and profound typological research. His work includes Helsinki’s Kiasma Museum (1992), Seattle’s Chapel of Saint Ignatius (1997), Simmons Hall at MIT (2002), and the Linked Hybrid complex in Beijing (2009). He has taught at Columbia University since 1981, where he continues his research.
